“It’s high time that we talk about the Heart of Thorns expansion for Guild Wars 2!” Syl says, and we couldn’t agree more. The Battle Bards assemble to look at the first expansion for this fantasy MMO — and the evolution of the game’s soundtrack from the Jeremy Soule era. The verdict? Unanimous love for this incredible score!
Episode 76 show notes
I personally don't think the soundtrack really works in the game, though it sounds amazing if you listen to it out of context. Some info on Tarir: It's a massive golden city in the middle of the jungle which is inhabited by beings that were once humans and now live in these huge golden armors. The city is the heart of the second zone in the expansion. The entire zone is a never-ending cycle; you arrive and are helping the Exalted (golden people) build up defences all around the zone. Then the Mordrem attack and you, along with the entire zone try to keep the city from being overrun (Attack on Tarir plays here). The fight ends and then the zone events reset to start all over again. The city isn't in ruins by any means, but there are some places where you can tell that time hasn't always been kind to it. Here's a great example of how beautiful it is: http://images.mmorpg.com/features/10432/images/Winter-Dec28-1_t.jpg
